Q&A: Eulogy and Recitation of Kaddish by Women
Eulogy and Recitation of Kaddish by Women
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I would be glad to receive the Rabbi’s opinion on a case I witnessed a few days ago.
A young woman was killed in an accident. She was from a religious kibbutz and from a very values-driven home that observed Torah and commandments. At the funeral, eulogies were delivered by the deceased’s sisters,
and Kaddish was recited by her father, mother, sisters, and brother. My question is: what is the Jewish law regarding women delivering a eulogy at a funeral, and women reciting Kaddish at a funeral?
With thanks and best regards
Answer
Hello,
There is no impediment whatsoever, neither to a eulogy nor to reciting Kaddish. See my article on an orphan daughter reciting Kaddish here:
