Q&A: A Question Regarding a Sin for the Sake of Heaven
A Question Regarding a Sin for the Sake of Heaven
Question
Hello Rabbi,
It seems to me that in all the examples brought in the article “On a Sin for the Sake of Heaven” here, these were women who committed the sin for the sake of Heaven, and the sin was also connected to sexual prohibitions. Are there other examples of a sin for the sake of Heaven? Is there any significance to this common denominator?
Thank you,
Answer
Since there is only one Talmudic passage in the Talmud on this, I don’t think you’ll find additional examples. But I see no reason to distinguish between sexual prohibitions and other sins. I assume that in the commentators and halakhic decisors one can find more examples, but here there is room for a disputant to argue over whether there is indeed any rationale for making such a distinction. I don’t see one.
