Recommendation for Studying Philosophy
Question
Which books does the Rabbi recommend for entering the world of philosophy? Is it worth starting in historical order with Aristotle (and if so, which books), or is it better to begin with a more contemporary philosopher?
Answer
I’ve been asked this more than once, and my answer has been that each person has his own path. I don’t know how to give a general formula. I suggest starting with introductory books, and then letting yourself be led by whatever interests you. I don’t think there is any special value in following the historical order (starting from Aristotle).
