Hello Rabbi, regarding the series on science and faith that the Rabbi wrote on Ynet, about the physico-theological argument
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Regarding the series on science and faith that the Rabbi wrote on Ynet, about the physico-theological argument:
Is it possible to deal with the claim that the world is complex and therefore has a Creator in the following way: instead of assuming that there is a Creator and attributing all kinds of additional things to Him, one could use Ockham's razor and say that there is some law in reality that directs the emergence of life in this complex form. That is more economical than assuming there is a Creator external to the world, and so on. I mean to say that there is some law that caused things to appear the way they appeared.
I'll use an example to illustrate: suppose a person throws an object into the sky, and suddenly—amazingly—the object, which had before it a whole range of possibilities, to fly upward, sideways, etc., chose דווקא the path downward. So they would tell you that there is a law. I want to make the same claim here.
Basically, I mean to say that it isn't something external that causes all these choices; rather, there is such a law in reality (so we still haven't formulated it, but that's not the end of the world..:)
Answer
The question is: who legislated that law itself?
