Q&A: Dilemmas or Conflicts Between Law, Morality, and Social Conventions
Dilemmas or Conflicts Between Law, Morality, and Social Conventions
Question
I am looking for an article on a dilemma or conflict between law, morality, and social convention. For example: Prohibition, the ban on alcoholic beverages in the United States from 1920–1933, or abortion in the United States or in Israel. Or discrimination against Black people in the United States—sometimes institutionalized, sometimes only a social convention.
Answer
I didn’t understand exactly what you are looking for. In general, material on value conflicts can be found in Danny Statman’s book.

On dilemmas between law and morality, or law and other things, there is certainly a great deal of material among legal scholars, and it would be worth asking them.
