Q&A: The Concept of a "Collective"
The Concept of a "Collective"
Question
Hello and blessings,
How does the Rabbi understand the concept of a collective?
For Rabbi Kook, the concept of a collective is not just the sum total of the individuals, but something beyond that (for example, his view of the concept of "the collective of the Jewish people"). Does the Rabbi agree with that definition? And if so, I would be glad if the Rabbi could expand a bit on what that means…
Answer
I’ve spoken and written about this several times here on the site and elsewhere.
See, for example, column 209 and 254, and also the article here: https://mikyab.net/%D7%9B%D7%AA%D7%91%D7%99%D7%9D/%D7%9E%D7%90%D7%9E%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%9D/%D7%94%D7%99%D7%91%D7%98%D7%99%D7%9D-%D7%90%D7%A7%D7%98%D7%95%D7%90%D7%9C%D7%99%D7%99%D7%9D-%D7%9C%D7%91%D7%A2%D7%99%D7%99%D7%AA-%D7%94%D7%A4%D7%A8%D7%98-%D7%95%D7%94%D7%9B%D7%9C%D7%9C-%D7%95%D7%93
I believe there is also a series of lectures on the public and collectives.
