Hello Rabbi,
I’m about to start studying for a degree after having learned in a hesder yeshiva for five years, and I’m looking for something to study for myself after yeshiva. I enjoy learning Jewish thought and philosophy, and I want to set for myself a long-term study project (a few months, or even more) that will give me a sense of creativity and closeness to God. Does the Rabbi have an idea for a project like that that I could take on?
Answer
I have no idea what gives you a sense of creativity and closeness to God. Only you know that. From my perspective, what matters is studying something of value regardless of the feelings it creates in you. Fields like Jewish thought, in my view, are about as far as possible from my concepts of valuable study. But of course many disagree with me about this. Wishing you much success.
