Q&A: The Transition from Deism to Theism
The Transition from Deism to Theism
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I would appreciate an answer or a referral to a column that addresses this.
After we have proven, from the cosmological argument or any other argument, the deistic God, it still remains to prove that this cause we call God is someone and not something. Because if it is only something—say, a quantum bubble, or whatever else one might posit—why should it have consciousness or will, so that we can move in the direction of the theistic God?
In other words, does the chain of arguments for a theistic God fail when we assume that God is something and not someone?
