Q&A: A Right to the Land
A Right to the Land
Question
1. In the Rabbi's view, does the Jewish people have the right to claim the land over other nations?
2. Do you think that the Land of Israel is just an ordinary piece of land, an external possession of the Jewish people, or as Rabbi Kook says: “The Land of Israel is an essential unit, bound by a living bond to the nation, embraced with inner qualities together with its very existence. And therefore one cannot grasp the content of the unique holiness of the Land of Israel and bring forth the depth of its love through any human rational understanding, but only through the spirit of God that rests upon the nation as a whole, through the natural spiritual imprint that is in the soul of Israel”?
Answer
2. I don’t really understand these words, and I don’t identify with the general message that comes out of them.
1. I don’t know what “the right to claim” means. We are not claiming it from anyone. We came, settled, and established a state. That’s all.
