Question
Given the contradiction between Genesis and science, there are 3 main views: 1. Denial of science. 2. An attempt to fit science to what is written in the Torah. 3. Turning Genesis into a non-historical, non-factual document, but rather a more allegorical and moral one. Which of these 3 views do you agree with, and do you have an article or book that systematically explains one of them?
Answer
It depends on what contradiction you mean. This is too general a question. I don’t have a comprehensive work on the subject, but it comes up in various places.
Denial of science is certainly not an option. We have no better tool for arriving at information about the world. But skepticism about it—that is definitely healthy and useful. Where there is a direct contradiction and I can’t find a resolution, I would prefer to say that this is an allegory, myth, or parable.
