I saw in an article that the Chief Rabbis are demanding that stones that fell from the Western Wall be returned from museums for burial/storage of sacred items, because "we have no permission to use them." Do they have the status of consecrated property?

Even if it is consecrated property, I don't see why burial/storage of sacred items would be preferable to displaying them in a museum. You could hardly have a finer burial than that.
