Legumes on Passover
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I’ve heard more than once that the Rabbi thinks it would be correct not to prohibit legumes on Passover (for Ashkenazim), except that in practice, for various reasons (some better and some less so), the Rabbi does not act that way.
I have a suggestion: it might be possible to start allowing (and eating) legumes on Passover eve after the time for elimination.
This year, since it falls on the Sabbath, that could be especially helpful.
All the best,
Aharon

That train left the station a long time ago. See Column 2.

*Raavad
Those are puzzling words, since hardened leaven is from flour. It is likely that this was said as a retrospective justification for this strange custom.
Hello Rabbi, but what about the view of Tosafot and the Raavad that it is due to the law of hardened leaven (rabbinic), and not because of decrees about mixing and the like?
