Question
I was asked to give a lecture to secular academics on the topic of who the human being is, and to create, as much as possible, an awareness that a person is not merely a walking lump of flesh, but is made up of a spiritual dimension as well.
Do you have any line of thought (suited to an educated secular audience) that compels this point convincingly?

Let me begin by saying that with suggestions like these, you should honestly examine whether you are suited for this, in terms of knowledge and general education. Otherwise, your lecture may do more harm than good. At the end of my book The Science of Freedom there is a series of thought experiments that may help you. In addition, you need to define the concepts clearly (what does a spiritual system mean: something else that exists within us, or a property of the material whole—emergence).
