Q&A: Source for the Rabbi’s Statement
Source for the Rabbi’s Statement
Question
I heard a talk from the Rabbi in which he cited the Magen Avraham to the effect that, in order for people to listen to what one says, one may lean on a great rabbi even though it is not true… What is the source for this?
According to this, is it proper in an inspirational talk to cite tendentious studies?
.
Answer
See section 156. It has sources in the Talmud, of course.
See my explanation of the Magen Avraham at the end of Column 21, and from there you will also find an answer to your question.
Discussion on Answer
I assume it is no accident that the username here is Shalom. This is the well-known joke of Rabbi Shalom (Shvadron).
The Magen Avraham’s source had already been ruled before him by Ramadal, and analyze it carefully, and this is obvious, and this is not the place to elaborate.
Maybe the source Rabbi Abraham cited is itself disassembled matter-of-factly (after all, the Magen Avraham wrote it)?…
