Q&A: Order in the World
Order in the World
Question
Hello Rabbi Michi,
What do you think of the following theory?
We see that there are enough people in the world in various roles to provide for humanity’s existential needs. For example, there are enough farmers, doctors, engineers, and so on. That is interesting, and perhaps from a probabilistic standpoint the likelihood is not necessarily high. One way to explain this is that an evolutionary process developed the different character tendencies in human beings so that humanity could continue to exist. A second possibility is that there is a planner of the world with an existing genetic pool, and He imprints it on human beings with certain character tendencies so that the world can function. And also people with spiritual tendencies, in order to balance matter and spirit. I would be happy to hear your opinion on the subject. If such a theory exists, where can I read about it?
Answer
Are you talking about the distribution of occupations or of talents? The former is determined by the market, and the latter by genetic probability.
Discussion on Answer
It doesn’t seem to me that this proves anything beyond the very existence of human beings and genetics.
Does this genetic probability point to a planner of the world who produces people with certain talents in order to sustain the world, or not necessarily, since there is a high enough genetic probability that enough talented people will emerge? I really don’t understand this field at all. It may be that my question is not phrased correctly.
