All Israel

שו"תAll Israel
שאל לפני 3 שנים

What do you think about the issue of all Israel being guarantors for each other, like a couple on a ship and a man makes a hole and they ask me what a seaweed does? So he says he only does it in his own place, and you answer him, "You're right, you do it in yours, but we'll all drown!" Is there a connection between the offenses and sins of Jews towards each other? In other words, can observant Jews be punished because their fellow Jews are secular and do not observe the commandments? Can the redemption (what is it?) be delayed because many do not observe the commandments, while if Israel had observed two Sabbaths, they would have been redeemed immediately?

Simply put, they can be punished if they are guilty of any crime (such as if they could have proven it and did not). The Gemara deals with the guarantee regarding hidden and revealed things (why do we point out… Sanhedrin 34b). But bringing about redemption is a reference to the public as a public, and here there is certainly weight to what each part of the public does. This is not a punishment but a result of the public's condition.
