Reliability of a Secular Person Regarding Kashrut and Koshering a Grill

Question

Hello and blessings,

I am staying abroad for the purpose of my studies.
Exceptionally, I accepted an invitation to a family barbecue at the home of one of my teachers.
A Reform Jew who does not keep kosher.

I intend to come with my family.
The teacher is a trustworthy person and asked me to guide him regarding kashrut; all the food will be bought at a kosher supermarket in the area. I would be grateful to hear your recommendation for how to “kosher” the event, including the electric grill for the event.

With thanks,

Itzik

Answer

If he is trustworthy in your eyes, then there is no problem with the shopping. But the grill is problematic (I do not know what kinds of meat were on it, and whether dairy foods and other forbidden items were also put on it). If you do intense heating with fire, that could help (I understand it is metal), but it would be preferable to use a disposable grill.
