Q&A: Where Are They Found
Where Are They Found
Question
According to your view that without a broad education it is hard to be a serious Torah scholar, and also based on your familiarity with the religious world in its various shades, my question is: where, in your opinion, can young Torah scholars of a high level be found (apparently not in most Religious Zionist yeshivas, and certainly not in universities), and at the same time be educated and broadly knowledgeable (apparently not in Haredi yeshivas)?
And if such people are not to be found at all, what should I give up as a 21-year-old woman who wants to realize the value of Torah study also through marrying a Torah scholar as a spouse (a Torah scholar by your definition), and yet is not interested in something where the cure is worse than the disease?
Thank you.
Answer
There are young Torah scholars of the kind I was talking about both in Haredi yeshivas and in modern-Zionist circles. If this is important to you, you can certainly find such a spouse. Don’t give up on anything. Of course, at your age he still won’t be a fully formed Torah scholar, but you can find potential and desire in him.
Should I despair?
