Q&A: A Book for Passover
A Book for Passover
Question
What’s a good book to have in mind for the major preparations for the holy Passover that is approaching us in peace?
Answer
I highly recommend the Shulchan Arukh, the laws of Passover, together with the Mishnah Berurah. Also tractate Pesachim, mainly the first and last chapters.
Discussion on Answer
Also The Time of Our Freedom by Rabbi Yosef Dov.
A serious question: I seem to remember that I once tried learning the laws of Passover with the Shulchan Arukh and Mishnah Berurah, and if I remember correctly there was a huge amount of discussion about how to inspect for leaven in an attic and under a chimney and all kinds of archaic things like that. Wouldn’t Peninei Halakha just be better?
Absolutely.
The Rabbi’s answer: “Absolutely” — is that referring to my comment (Zvi) or to Strudel’s?
Strudel.
The Rabbi doesn’t recommend columns 126–131?
I definitely recommend them, as a baker praising his own dough. But my answer was referring to Peninei Halakha.
Columns 126–131 are highly recommended.
