Crime and Punishment. Anna Karenina. Elsa Morante (especially History: A Novel). Howard Fast (lighter literature; historical novels). Hemingway. John Steinbeck. I also really like Jodi Picoult, even though she’s considered something like airport reading. In my view, absolutely not. She has fascinating psychological insights. All dozens of her books are excellent, in my opinion.
There are many more, but I’ll stop here.

The cut-rate psychologist in me thinks your modesty is blocking your field of vision, and that’s why you don’t see any value in your recommendations.
You simply aren’t able to grasp that people see you as an example and want to be like you (because my Zusya is jealous of your Zusya), so they ask for your recommendations about books and philosophical development. And they get pretty disappointed by the answer, “Everyone has his own taste, just roll with it…” etc. 🙂
I hope I, the humble one, will manage to bring about a change.

It’s not only that. Many of the people who end up here also share similar lines of thought with the Rabbi, so it stands to reason that the Rabbi’s recommendations would suit them, and he could contribute from his experience. That’s true of many things.
